About my approach to photography:
Life is a show, full of surprises, if only we take time to notice. I love finding unexpected beauty in the most mundane settings of everyday life.
Most of the time, we operate on auto-pilot, so busy that we don’t really see. My photography is a way for me to stop and focus, to pay attention, to notice everything. Seeing everything with a photographer’s eye reminds me to be “in the moment.”
The natural world is my favorite studio. I grew up playing in the woods of New England, and I’m still doing it.
About me:
Photography has been a passion since I can remember. I began as a black and white film photographer while I was still a teenager.
I studied photography first in high school. That’s when I set up my first business, doing candid black & white children’s portraits. I developed and printed my work in a tiny darkroom in a basement bathroom.
I studied photography further at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY, and later at ICP (International Center of Photography) in New York, NY. Professionally, I pursued my other passion, writing. I was a copywriter (N W Ayer, Inc.), marketing writer (AISG); I wrote poetry and fiction, but throughout it all, I was always a photographer as well.
In 2001, I made the switch to digital photography. I enjoyed the control it allowed me over my work, and I found the various post-processing options intriguing. Now photography has once again taken center stage in my life. I’m pleased to be able to share my work with a greater audience.
